Frequently asked questions

What's the fastest way to get support?

Use email support, or check the API documentation.

What data does the Houski API provide?

Data on 19+ million Canadian properties: physical characteristics, location, permits, listings, market trends, and history. Full response examples are in the API documentation.

How accurate and current is the data?

Data is updated daily and continuously validated. We combine multiple sources, public records, and user submissions.

What can I build with the API?

Valuation tools, market analysis platforms, insurance quote generators, mortgage calculators, and real estate websites. The flexible query system lets you customize data retrieval.

What technical requirements are there?

The API uses standard JSON responses and works with any language. Client libraries are available for Python, JavaScript, PHP, and Ruby. Authentication uses API keys with optional OAuth2 support.

What are the rate limits and performance expectations?

Each API key is limited to 10 concurrent requests in flight at any one time. Going over this limit returns a 429 response. The API typically responds in under 200ms, though response times vary under heavy load. See our terms of service for details.

Can I resell or white-label the API?

You can integrate property data into your services, but reselling or white-labeling direct API access is not permitted.

How is API usage billed?

Companies over $2M revenue negotiate an enterprise contract with us directly. Smaller companies use pay-as-you-go usage-based pricing starting at $99/month. Your accrued usage cost for the current billing cycle is shown in the dashboard and refreshes every 12 hours.

Do you provide historical data?

Where useful, yes. Listing and permit data have history. The prediction endpoint can return estimated list prices for any date within the last few years.

Does the API have a free trial, or sandbox?

No, but the price_quote query parameter returns a cost estimate, for the current page of results, before you make any request.

What happens if the API is down?

We don't offer uptime guarantees, service credits, or refunds for downtime. We work to keep the API highly available, but cannot commit to any specific uptime number. See our terms of service.

Do you provide bulk data exports?

Yes - bulk exports in JSON, CSV, and other formats. Enterprise clients can request custom formats and delivery methods. Contact us.

Is the data available for all of Canada?

Yes - all provinces and territories. Coverage is most detailed in major urban areas, and rural and remote coverage is expanding.

Do you provide data for commercial properties?

Yes - filter and sort using is_commercial_eq, with fields like zoning, commercial use type, building size, and assessment values.
